I’m not sure we’ve ever left for vacation on a Saturday before, but I kind of like it. A fairly easy morning and smooth drive to Charlotte for our mid-day flight. All the miles I fly paid off for front-of-the-cabin seats. A glass of wine (a Bloody Mary for Carl) and we were in full-on vacation mode.
Since we are now half-time residents on the east coast, we both thought a trip to New England would be a terrific vacation. I’ve only been to Boston once for business and never to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard.
We checked-in to XV Beacon Hotel (wonderful find by Carl), and quickly headed out to the Quincy Market area. On our way we noticed a group of street entertainers, The Rantastic Dancers from New York, getting ready for their next performance. We couldn’t help but stop and watch, and SO well worth it. These guys were so incredibly talented. These impromptu moments are always some of our most favorites.
After the dance show, we continued on down through the market and soon came across Mija Cantina and Tequila bar. Knowing how my man looooves tequila, I knew we must stop in for a quick, cool, shot of top shelf Añejo. Delicious!
We continued on from there to Legal Sea Foods for a late lunch/early dinner. I had a great grilled swordfish and Carl a lovely salmon, but we should have shared because we both had half plates of food left over and staying in a hotel doesn’t provide for leftover options. Oh well, at least we saved room for the blueberry crumble with vanilla ice cream…
Back to our hotel to cool down (hot, hot, hot in bean town) and a short nap before we headed up to the rooftop garden for some evening pictures. All in all a wonderful first day of vaca!
Cheers from Boston! More tomorrow.
